A presidential aide, Daniel Bwala, has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win over two million votes in the South-East in the 2027 presidential election.
Bwala, who is one of Tinubu’s special advisers, made this statement during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday.
He said the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will not be able to secure a ticket to run under any political party in 2027 – not even under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which many opposition leaders have adopted as a coalition platform.
“He is not going to get a ticket in any of the parties,” Bwala stated. “The problem now is that he might not even get the vice presidential ticket, from the way things are going.”
Bwala also claimed that Obi has lost half of the support he had in 2023, arguing that his votes were not based on solid political structures or policies.
“Whether Peter Obi is a ticket bearer of the party or not, he has lost 50 percent of his votes because they were not built on agenda and politics, but on rhetoric and division,” he said. “Now Nigerians’ eyes are open.”
In July 2025, Peter Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and other opposition figures came together to support the ADC as a joint platform to challenge Tinubu’s re-election. However, Bwala believes the alliance may not favour Obi politically.
Peter Obi, who finished third in the 2023 elections, enjoyed massive youth support and strong backing in the South-East. But Bwala insists that Tinubu will now gain more ground in the region ahead of 2027.
