A yet-to-be-identified driver of a Lexus SUV has fled after crashing into two tricycles, killing one passenger on the spot and injuring others in Obosi, near Onitsha, Anambra State.
The fatal accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, August 16, 2025, at People’s Club by Limca Road, a busy area in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the SUV driver and other occupants of the vehicle abandoned the car at the scene and fled immediately after the crash.
Police operatives from the Isiowulu Division quickly responded to the incident, evacuated the injured to a nearby hospital, and moved the deceased to the morgue. The tricycle passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Lexus SUV was recovered, and the area cordoned off to prevent any possible unrest.
“Preliminary information reveals that the Lexus rammed into the tricycles, resulting in the unfortunate death of one occupant. Others were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment,” the statement read.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a full investigation into the matter and urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the fleeing driver and bring all those involved to justice.
