Nigerian online comedy community has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of fast-rising skit maker, Sanku Olaniyi, popularly known as Mrsankucomedy.
Sanku died in a car accident in the early hours of Monday, September 1, 2025. According to eyewitness reports, he was travelling with a friend when the accident occurred. Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, but Sanku was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed at the time of filing this report.
Sanku, who began his comedy career in 2021, rose to fame in 2024 after a freestyle video he posted online went viral. The video, which attracted over 70,000 views within a short time, marked the turning point in his career. He became known for his unique style, relatable content, and witty humour that connected with young Nigerians.
