Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the immediate reconstruction of the collapsed ’Yanshana Bridge in Kumbotso Local Government Area, following a peaceful protest by residents of the affected community.
The bridge, which collapsed three days ago, had cut off access for many residents, disrupting daily activities including transportation, school attendance, and movement of goods.
The governor made the announcement at the Kano Government House, shortly after receiving a delegation of protesters who came to express their concerns over the bridge’s collapse and the hardship it had caused.
Governor Yusuf assured the community that the State Executive Council, during its Wednesday meeting, would formally approve the start of reconstruction work on the bridge. He emphasised that his administration remains committed to infrastructure development and responding quickly to citizens’ needs.
“We have listened to your concerns, and I assure you that this government will not abandon the people of Yanshana,” Yusuf said.
In addition to approving the reconstruction of the bridge, the governor also directed the completion of an abandoned secondary school project in the area. The school, which had been left unfinished for years, is now expected to be completed and made functional for students in the community.
Governor Yusuf further instructed the Chairman of Kumbotso Local Government to provide land for a new cemetery to serve the people of ’Yanshana. According to him, these steps are necessary to meet the basic needs of the growing population in the area.
The protest by ’Yanshana residents had remained peaceful, with community members carrying placards and calling on the state government to come to their aid. Many of the protesters said the bridge was not only a key route for movement but also important for local businesses and emergency services.
With this move, work is expected to begin shortly, and residents are hopeful that the collapsed bridge will be fixed without further delays, helping restore normal life in the community.
