    Fayose Declares PDP ‘Hopeless’

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is in a hopeless condition, describing it as a shadow of its former self.

Fayose, who spoke with journalists on Sunday in Ado Ekiti, said the main opposition party has lost focus and direction, warning that its return to power may no longer be possible under the current circumstances.

“The PDP is in a hopeless situation and a shadow of itself,” he said. “The party needs a leader who can reunite everybody at this time. There is no hope of PDP coming back for now. Even the captains of our boat are jumping ship. They are moving from one bed to another. So, who is going to hold the party together?”

Fayose expressed concern that the crisis rocking the PDP at both national and state levels has weakened its structure and made it unattractive to Nigerians. He accused the party’s National Working Committee, led by Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, of presiding over what he called the “burial” of the PDP.

“The Damagum-led National Working Committee are undertakers,” Fayose declared. “They have come to bury the party. They are leaving in less than one or two months, yet they are still suspending and counter-suspending members.”

The former governor, who was once a strong voice in the PDP, lamented that the party that once ruled Nigeria for 16 years has now lost its strength and unity due to internal wrangling and lack of effective leadership.

Fayose’s remarks come at a time when the PDP is struggling to recover from post-election divisions following its poor performance in the 2023 general elections. Many party leaders and members have either defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or joined other political platforms.
