Lagos Condemns ‘Inhumane’ Attacks on BRT Passengers, Buses

The Lagos State Government (LASG) has expressed serious concern over a recent rise in attacks on passengers and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses. Mr. Idowu Oguntona, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL), released a statement on Wednesday condemning these violent acts.

The recent attacks targeted a BRT bus traveling from Mile 2 to Leventis. The bus, carrying 35 passengers, was approaching the Ore-Ofe bus stop on the Orile axis when a large group of hoodlums surrounded it. The attackers vandalized the bus, assaulted passengers with sharp objects, and stole phones and other valuables from them.

This incident has raised significant alarm among both the public and authorities. The nature of the attack—where passengers were not only robbed but also physically harmed—has been described as particularly shocking and unacceptable.

Oguntona called the attacks “alarming” and “inhumane.” He made it clear that the Lagos State Government will not ignore these acts of lawlessness and is fully committed to ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice. He reassured the public that security agencies are actively pursuing the criminals involved in these attacks.

Oguntona also emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining public safety on all public transportation systems in Lagos. The Lagos State Government is taking all necessary legal actions to protect residents and visitors. Oguntona’s assurance was aimed at calming fears and reminding commuters that their safety is a top priority.
