The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation into the tragic killing of a 20-year-old woman, Hajara Isa, by her co-wife in a chilling case that has left the local community in shock. The incident took place on February 28, 2025, and was reported to the authorities on March 3, 2025, after family members of the deceased raised suspicions about the circumstances surrounding her death.

Hajara Isa was allegedly murdered by her co-wife, Fatima Mohammed, in their matrimonial home in Anguwan Sarakuna, Bauchi, under what the police have described as violent and extreme circumstances. The case has quickly drawn attention not only because of the brutality of the crime but also due to the underlying issues of polygamy that may have played a role in this tragic incident.

The brutal killing of Hajara Isa came to light when her husband, Sale Isa, reported the suspicious death to the Bauchi Police Command. According to reports, family members were immediately suspicious of Fatima Mohammed, Hajara’s co-wife, and suspected her involvement in the death.

The initial investigation revealed a disturbing sequence of events. The police were informed that Fatima Mohammed, aged 28, allegedly confessed to the crime after being interrogated by investigators. According to a statement from the Bauchi State Police Command, Fatima admitted to strangling Hajara to death before attempting to destroy the evidence in a gruesome manner.

Fatima reportedly poured boiling water on Hajara’s lifeless body and then set it on fire using a melted Bagco sack, possibly in an attempt to conceal any trace of the murder. This shocking detail paints a picture of the lengths to which the suspect allegedly went to cover up the crime.

Following these developments, the Bauchi State Police Commissioner, Auwal Musa Muhammad, quickly took action to ensure that the investigation proceeded with urgency. A team of detectives from the C Division Police Headquarters was dispatched to gather further evidence.

As the investigation unfolded, Fatima Mohammed was arrested. The police statement, issued by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Wakili, confirmed the suspect’s confession during the investigation. The police assured the public that they were committed to conducting a thorough and professional investigation to uncover the full truth.

“This is a tragic and shocking incident. We are doing everything we can to ensure that justice is served,” said Commissioner Auwal Musa Muhammad. He went on to confirm that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation’

“We will leave no stone unturned. We are looking at every possibility, including conducting forensic tests and digging up the body to ensure we have all the facts,” Commissioner Muhammad added.

While the exact motive behind the murder remains unclear, there have been suggestions that family tensions, particularly those related to the practice of polygamy, could have played a significant role in the tragic event.
