Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish: Bode George Responds to Jandor’s Defection from PDP

    Share

Chief Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has reacted to the defection of Abdul-Azeez Adediran, better known as Jandor, from the party. Jandor, who was the PDP governorship candidate in Lagos State in the 2023 elections, announced his resignation from the party on Monday, citing what he described as “persistent anti-party activities and internal sabotage” orchestrated by certain party leaders, including George himself.

Jandor’s departure has sparked significant debate within political circles, especially as he was seen as a major figure within the PDP in Lagos State. However, George, a seasoned and influential member of the party, dismissed the move as “insignificant” and accused Jandor of making false claims about the internal workings of the PDP.

Jandor’s decision to leave the PDP has raised eyebrows, as his departure follows a series of internal disagreements within the party. In his resignation statement, he accused some PDP leaders, including George, of sabotaging his efforts during the 2023 Lagos State governorship elections. According to Jandor, these actions made it difficult for him to work effectively within the party and contributed to his eventual decision to resign.

“I can no longer remain in a party where some of its leaders are committed to subverting the efforts of others for personal gain,” Jandor said in his statement. “The internal sabotage I experienced has made it impossible for me to continue my political journey within the PDP.”

Chief Olabode George, who has been a prominent figure in Nigerian politics for several decades, responded to Jandor’s resignation with disdain. In a statement, George called Jandor’s accusations “false and unjustifiable” and described him as a young, inexperienced politician who was not worthy of his attention. George stated that Jandor’s defection was insignificant and that he would not dignify the young politician’s claims with a response.

“He is an infra dignitatem; I would not give any reply to him,” George said, using a Latin phrase meaning someone beneath dignity. “The boy and my children are not his age mates. He’s just growing up. My first two children are older than him. He came to the party, he didn’t come to the party; that is his problem.”

In the same statement, George accused Jandor of lying about his involvement in the disciplinary issues within the party. “He is lying by saying I was appointed to any disciplinary committee. He is just lying about it. It’s an insult to my person to answer him. He’s just growing up, and my advice to him is to go and live a good life. I will never take any insult from a little chap like that,” George added, expressing his frustration at Jandor’s claims.

George’s response reflects his deep frustration with the younger generation of politicians who, according to him, lack the necessary experience and understanding of how to navigate the political landscape. In his view, Jandor’s departure is a reflection of his immaturity and failure to understand the workings of the PDP.

Perhaps the most pointed remark in George’s response was his declaration, “Good riddance to bad rubbish.” This remark has stirred up controversy, as it is a direct attack on Jandor’s character and his role in the PDP. George’s words suggest that he believes Jandor’s defection will not have a significant impact on the party, and that it is better for both parties to part ways.

“I will wish him the best of luck. Good riddance to bad rubbish,” George said. This statement reflects George’s view that Jandor’s departure will not be a loss for the PDP and that the party can continue without him.
