President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the country is seeing a decline in hunger and a reduction in food prices due to recent economic measures. The President made the remarks on Sunday when the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, led a delegation to the Presidential Villa in Abuja to pay Sallah homage.
During the visit, Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the progress the administration has made in addressing key economic challenges, particularly rising food costs, which have been a significant burden for many Nigerians.
The President noted that his administration has taken deliberate steps to control food inflation and reduce hunger levels across the country. He credited the significant improvement to a series of reforms that started with the removal of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), a policy change he believes had a quick, positive impact on the economy.
“Immediately the FCT was removed from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), things started changing rapidly,” Tinubu said, highlighting that this decision opened up economic opportunities in previously neglected sectors and led to faster improvements in governance and development.
As part of his administration’s focus on sustainable development, President Tinubu also emphasized his government’s efforts to revitalize rural areas and key public services. He cited specific examples of progress, including the rehabilitation of health centers and the revitalization of abandoned government properties.
“The residence of the Vice President that had been abandoned for years came alive,” Tinubu said. He also praised the rehabilitation of health facilities in the FCT and the improvements made to schools, including the furnishing of school buildings and the upgrading of teaching resources.
“Today, we are living in peace and security is improving,” the President added, stressing that these efforts are starting to yield visible results, with positive impacts on both local economies and the everyday lives of Nigerians.
In addition to economic reforms, the President also highlighted the government’s commitment to improving security and the overall quality of life for Nigerians. According to Tinubu, the administration’s focus on peace and security has contributed to an environment where business can thrive, and where food prices are beginning to stabilize.
“Hunger is coming down. Food prices are lowering. We are able to go to the market and do business,” Tinubu stated, expressing confidence that the country’s economic challenges are being addressed through targeted interventions that benefit everyday Nigerians.
This statement comes after a period of rising food prices and economic hardship that had many Nigerians struggling to make ends meet. The country has faced significant inflationary pressures in recent years, with food prices skyrocketing due to a combination of local and international factors, including supply chain disruptions, the global energy crisis, and ongoing security challenges.
Despite the progress made, President Tinubu acknowledged that much work remains to be done in tackling the nation’s economic challenges. He stressed the importance of continuing with economic reforms, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, security, and education, to further improve living standards and create more opportunities for Nigerians.
“I have always believed that the true measure of leadership is not in promises, but in tangible results. We have started to see the fruits of our labor, but we must continue to push forward with greater resolve,” Tinubu said.
The visit from Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, was also significant in the context of Tinubu’s comments. Wike, who has been active in implementing key reforms in the FCT, has received praise from the President for his work in transforming the city and improving public services.
Tinubu acknowledged Wike’s efforts in bringing about these positive changes, particularly in the rehabilitation of critical infrastructure and the improvement of public services for FCT residents. Wike’s leadership in implementing these changes has helped restore confidence in the government’s ability to address long-standing challenges, including urban development and service delivery.
As President Tinubu continues to push for reforms across various sectors, including agriculture, education, and healthcare, he has made it clear that his government will remain focused on improving the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians. With the country’s food prices starting to drop and hunger levels on the decline, many Nigerians will be watching closely to see if these trends continue in the coming months.
