The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully rescued two students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) who were kidnapped on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state, SP Ramhan Nansel, the rescue operation followed a distress call received at approximately 9:20 PM that evening. The report indicated that a student lodge, located behind Nasara Estate in Tudun Kauri, Lafia, had been attacked, and two students – Sadiq Adinoyi and Sakina Adinoyi – were abducted by unidentified gunmen.
“On March 30, at about 9:20 PM, we received a distress call about an attack on a student lodge behind Nasara Estate, Tudun Kauri, Lafia. Two students of the Federal University of Lafia, Sadiq Adinoyi and Sakina Adinoyi, were abducted during the attack,” Nansel stated in the report.
Immediately following the distress call, police operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and ‘A’ Division in Lafia were mobilized to track down the perpetrators. The mission was carried out under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, who emphasized the need for a swift response.
“Acting swiftly on the directive of Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and ‘A’ Division, Lafia, were mobilized to track down the perpetrators,” Nansel added.
The police team utilized technical intelligence in their search and discovered that the kidnapped students were being held in a forest area behind the 500 Housing Unit along Doma Road. Upon locating the victims, the police engaged the kidnappers in a gunfight. Due to the superior firepower of the police, the kidnappers fled in different directions, abandoning the students in the process. Both students were rescued unharmed.
The police arrested one suspect, identified as Ibrahim Musa, from Abuni village in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. Musa was apprehended at the scene and has since made a useful confession, providing valuable information to assist with ongoing investigations.
“One suspect, Ibrahim Musa of Abuni village, Awe Local Government Area of the state, was arrested at the scene. He has made a useful confession and is currently assisting with ongoing investigations,” Nansel confirmed.
Nansel expressed appreciation on behalf of the Commissioner of Police for the efforts of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in ensuring the safe rescue of the students. He reiterated the police command’s commitment to combating criminal activities and ensuring the safety of the people of Nasarawa State.
“We appreciate the relentless efforts of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in the rescue operation. This is another step in our commitment to tackling crime head-on. We urge officers to remain steadfast in their mission to rid the state of criminal elements,” Nansel concluded.
