Jigawa Groom, 3 Friends Detained Over Wife’s Death

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old groom, Auwal Abdulwahab, and three of his friends in connection with the tragic death of his wife, who allegedly died following a coerced sexual encounter.

According to the police spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the incident took place on the night of April 26, 2025, in Tungo village, Albasu District, Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area. It is believed that Abdulwahab, just days after his wedding, conspired with his three friends—Nura Basiru, Muttaka Lawan, and Hamisu Musa—to force his new wife into a non-consensual sexual act.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the bride had previously expressed disagreement with her husband regarding their marital relations, which may have contributed to the tragic event. During the coercive act, the wife reportedly died.

Upon receiving the report, a team of policemen responded promptly, retrieving the body and transporting it to the Gumel General Hospital, where medical professionals confirmed her death. The body was subsequently released to her family for burial.

The four suspects—Abdulwahab and his three friends—have been arrested and are currently in police custody. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Dutse for further investigation.
