There is growing tension in the family of Nigerian juju music legend, King Sunny Ade, as some of his children clash publicly over his safety and whereabouts.
Damilola Esther, one of Sunny Ade’s daughters, sparked concern on social media after accusing her stepbrother, Dayo, of “holding their father hostage” and mismanaging his affairs. In a series of posts, Damilola claimed the music icon had been unreachable and alleged that Dayo, who she said acts as his manager, was “stealing” from him and booking events without honouring them.
“Dad told my brother that he wants to go home. Where is he? Where are his phones?” she asked in one post. In another, she demanded Dayo’s arrest, accusing him of planning to flee abroad.
But Dayo, in an interview denied all allegations. He insisted their father was in good health and active. “He performed at a 60th birthday party last Saturday and had band rehearsals last week. He’s scheduled to perform in Akure on May 1,” he said.
Dayo clarified that he is not KSA’s official manager, but only helps out when needed. “I am not on payroll. I just assist him out of love and respect,” he said. He added that their father would issue a public statement soon to clear the air.
Another son, David, also backed Dayo’s claims, describing Damilola’s accusations as false. “Daddy is fine. He just finished an event. There’s nothing wrong,” he said
However, respected journalist Olawale Olaleye lent some weight to Damilola’s concerns, saying that King Sunny Ade has become unreachable to even his close contacts. He claimed several attempts to contact the legendary musician had failed, raising more questions.
King Sunny Ade, whose real name is Sunday Adegeye, is a major figure in Nigerian music, with a career spanning over five decades. His sudden absence from public communication has now sparked a family crisis playing out in the public eye.
As fans await an official statement from the 78-year-old juju icon, the incident has raised concerns about the management of elderly celebrities and their welfare.
