    Two Kidnappers, Cultists Arrested in Anambra

    The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and cultists in Nnewi, recovering a foreign-made pistol, three rounds of live ammunition, and a stolen motorcycle.

    The suspects, identified as Ani Obinna (21) and Okwudili Ezike (43), were apprehended on Thursday afternoon by police operatives attached to Otolo–Nnewi division.

    According to a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrests took place around 1:45 p.m. following credible intelligence. The officers tracked the suspects to a criminal hideout during a hot pursuit and successfully arrested them.

    “During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of a secret cult and a kidnapping gang,” Ikenga said. “They also provided useful information that is helping the police track down other members of the group.”

    Recovered from the suspects were a foreign-made pistol, three live bullets, and a lady’s motorcycle believed to have been stolen.

    The police spokesperson stated that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on criminal gangs across the state.

    “As a result, the Command has intensified patrols in the area and is committed to maintaining peace and security to support businesses and daily life,” Ikenga added.

    He assured residents that the police are monitoring the situation closely and will provide further updates as investigations continue.

    Nnewi, a major commercial hub in Anambra State, has in recent times witnessed increased police presence aimed at tackling crimes such as cultism, armed robbery, and kidnapping.

    The arrest is seen as a step forward in the fight against criminal elements threatening the safety of lives and property in the state.
