    10-Day Festivities Announced for New Owa of Ijesaland

    The Palace of the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland has announced a 10-day line-up of activities to mark the coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, as the 41st traditional ruler of the kingdom.

    This was disclosed in a statement by Chief Shola Oshunkeye, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee for the Coronation Committee. The elaborate programme begins on Friday, May 16, 2025, and will climax with the grand coronation ceremony on Friday, May 23, in Ilesa, the heart of Ijesaland.

    Haastrup, a respected elder statesman, former Deputy Governor of Osun State and billionaire businessman, was announced as successor to the late monarch, Oba Dr. Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, on December 27, 2024.

    The festivities will kick off with a special Jumat service at Ilesa Central Mosque on May 16. On May 17, a cultural celebration will be held at the Obokungbusi Hall, followed by an Isese night at the palace courtyard later that evening.

    Other highlights include royal visits to Ijesa zones, a marathon and football finals, charity visits to orphanages, a resource development workshop at the University of Ilesa, and a golf tournament.

    The grand coronation will take place on May 23 at the Owa’s Palace, followed by a colourful reception at Ilesa Grammar School. The week of celebrations will end on May 25 with a thanksgiving service at the Methodist Church, Otapete, Ilesa.

    The palace described the upcoming events as an iconic royal spectacle, set to showcase the rich cultural heritage and unity of Ijesaland.
