The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has placed its search and rescue team on high alert due to expected thunderstorms and heavy rains in Abuja and surrounding states.
Acting Director-General of FEMD, Mr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, made this known in a statement on Friday, following a weather alert issued by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMET). The alert indicated that states like Benue, Plateau, and Nasarawa are already experiencing storms, with the FCT, Edo, Imo, Abia, and Anambra expected to be affected until May 3.
Mohammed urged residents to stay indoors during heavy rainfall, avoid driving, steer clear of trees, and disconnect electrical appliances for safety. He also reminded residents of the 112 toll-free number to call in emergencies, stressing the department’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
