A tragic road accident near Yellowstone National Park in the United States has claimed the lives of seven people and left eight others injured. The crash occurred on Thursday evening in eastern Idaho when a tour van carrying 14 tourists collided with a Chevy pickup truck.
According to Idaho State Police, both vehicles caught fire after the collision, killing the truck driver and six passengers in the van. The incident happened around 7:15 p.m. local time on a busy highway that leads to the park, just 16 miles from Yellowstone’s entrance.
Witnesses reported that bystanders tried to help the injured before emergency services arrived. The road was shut down for seven hours while victims were treated and debris cleared.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash. The coroner’s office will release the names of the deceased after notifying their families.
Yellowstone National Park, the oldest in the US, spans nearly 3,500 square miles and draws about four million visitors each year, most during the May–September peak season.
