Five travellers were injured by gunfire after armed bandits attacked a moving vehicle in Zamfara State on Monday, May 5, 2025.

The incident happened when the bandits attempted to stop a Golf 3 car in transit. According to eyewitnesses, the driver refused to stop, prompting the gunmen to open fire on the vehicle.

All five passengers, including the driver, sustained various degrees of bullet wounds. They were quickly rushed to the Ahmed Sani Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital for treatment.

Security operatives have since visited the scene and say they are working to track down and arrest the attackers. The road where the attack occurred is said to be a known flashpoint in Zamfara, which has seen a rise in banditry and violent crimes in recent years.

Zamfara State, in Nigeria’s North-West, has long struggled with insecurity, as armed groups target villagers, travellers, and motorists in a cycle of violence that has displaced thousands. The government continues to deploy security forces to combat the menace, but attacks persist.
