At least six people have been killed in renewed attacks by gunmen on Marit and Gashish communities in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack occurred on Monday, with eyewitnesses reporting that the gunmen stormed the communities and opened fire on residents, injuring several others in the process.

The Chairman of Barkin Ladi LGA, Hon. Stephen Gyang, confirmed the incident in a statement released by his Press Secretary, Mercy Yop Chuwang. He described the attack as a setback to ongoing peace efforts in the area.

Hon. Gyang, who visited some of the injured victims at the Barkin Ladi General Hospital, expressed deep concern over the return of violence to the region. He commended local vigilantes and security forces for their efforts and urged them to step up their operations to prevent future attacks.

He also called on all stakeholders — including security agencies, traditional leaders, and residents — to work together to end the cycle of violence in Barkin Ladi and restore lasting peace.
