Nigerian troops have killed several terrorists and destroyed their camp during a major clearance operation in parts of Katsina State, the military confirmed on Friday.

The operation, carried out by troops from Headquarters Operation Forest Yaki (OPFY) Main Strike Team, took place around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, following intelligence reports on terrorist movements in the area.

According to military sources, the troops moved from Bini in the HAR axis through Landal village and Akuzo, down to Yan Wutsiya area, where they encountered the terrorists at a location known as “Soja Camp.”

A fierce gun battle followed, during which many terrorists were killed while others fled with gunshot wounds. Bloodstains around the area showed signs of injuries among the fleeing fighters.

After the gunfight, soldiers combed the camp and recovered dangerous weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, ten loaded magazines containing 300 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one 120mm mortar bomb likely meant for IEDs, a locally made PKT rifle, a pistol, and military uniforms.

Military sources said the successful raid is part of a broader plan to flush out terrorists from their hideouts in the North West. They pledged those similar aggressive operations would continue until the region is completely free of terrorist activities.
