    Share

A tragic incident occurred in Delta State where a 16-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his younger sister while playing with a gun belonging to their father.

The unfortunate event was confirmed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). According to Edafe, the boy had a habit of playing with the gun, which his father kept at home.

In his statement, Edafe said: “I pray and hope I don’t have to bring this kind of report to you again because it’s so sad. The father claimed he is a hunter. His 16-year-old son, who always plays with his dad’s gun, on this fateful day, was playing with the gun, shot and killed his younger sister.”

The police have not yet revealed the names of those involved or the exact location of the incident. Investigations into the case are ongoing.

The tragedy has sparked renewed concern about the dangers of keeping firearms within reach of children, especially in homes where safety measures are not properly observed. Police authorities are expected to further question the father and possibly press charges depending on the outcome of the investigation.
