The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a notorious kidnapper and cattle rustler, Abashe Gizo, in the Shinge Market area of Lafia. The arrest came after a well-coordinated operation by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
In a statement released on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ramhan Nansel, said the suspect had been on the command’s wanted list for a long time due to his involvement in several kidnapping and cattle rustling cases across the state.
“Abashe Gizo, who has no fixed address, was arrested on Saturday after an intensive manhunt. He confessed to his crimes and led the police to his hideout at Ruwan Baka village in Doma Local Government Area, where an AK-49 rifle and a magazine were recovered,” the statement read.
This arrest follows the recent interception of a woman, Fatima Salisu, who was caught transporting a large cache of ammunition from Doma to Katsina State, allegedly meant for criminal gangs.
The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, assured the public that the police will not relent in their fight against crime. He called on residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.
“We are fully committed to making every community in Nasarawa safe,” CP Mohammed said.
