A suspected kidnapper  has confessed that he cannot recall how many children his gang has kidnapped in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

The suspect, who was nearly lynched by a mob on Friday, was rescued by police officers on routine patrol around 7 p.m. According to eyewitnesses, he was caught attempting to abduct a child before being apprehended by locals.

In a widely circulated video, the bruised suspect admitted his involvement in child kidnapping for ritual purposes and revealed that he was given ₦10 million by his gang leader to carry out the act. He also disclosed that their leader resides in Dagbolu, a community near Osogbo, Osun State.

He went on to mention names of other members of the gang, although police are yet to confirm their identities.

Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, Adetoun Adetoun, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect is now in police custody undergoing interrogation. She warned residents against jungle justice, urging them to report crimes to the police rather than take the law into their own hands.
