The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged residents of Apo in Abuja to ignore critics on social media and continue supporting President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the commissioning of the newly renovated Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, Wike said President Tinubu has shown genuine commitment to fulfilling his promises to the people.
“This is not a flag-off, we are commissioning. Some people don’t have good taste. Everything inside this conference centre has been changed — except the block. If you love this country, you won’t criticise that,” he said.
Wike criticised members of the opposition and social media commentators who have called some of the government’s projects a “misplaced priority.” He also took a swipe at those who have already started campaigning for 2027, despite failing to win elections in the past.
“Somebody who couldn’t win election is talking about priority. If you had it, people would have voted for you. 2027 is around the corner. When the jungle matures, we’ll know. If you do for me, I do for you,” Wike added.
He accused unnamed political actors of misleading Abuja residents with unfulfilled promises, unlike Tinubu, whom he praised for initiating and completing projects in the FCT.
“This President said he would fix Apo roads — and he has. He said he would relocate you — and he will. Meanwhile, you’re listening to people whose names may not even be on the ballot by 2027. Coalition that was born and died the same day,” he said.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and a key political ally of President Tinubu, has continued to defend the administration’s policies, calling on Nigerians to focus on performance rather than empty campaign promises or online narratives.
