Goodluck Ihemnacho, the appointed administrator of Ahoada East Local Government Area in Rivers State, has officially resigned from his position, just two months after taking office.

Ihemnacho was one of the local government administrators appointed by the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), following the expiration of the tenure of elected LG chairmen in April 2025.

His resignation was contained in a letter dated June 20, 2025, and addressed to the state’s sole administrator. The letter has since surfaced on social media, drawing public attention.

In the letter, Ihemnacho said his decision to step down was driven by a desire to return to the private sector.

“I humbly write to your noble office to convey to you my resignation as the administrator, Ahoada East LGA,” he wrote. “My sincere gratitude goes to the government of Rivers State and the good people of Ahoada East for finding me worthy to serve.”

However, political observers in the state believe Ihemnacho may have resigned to prepare for the upcoming local government elections, although this has not been confirmed.

The resignation comes at a politically sensitive time in Rivers State, where the structure and leadership of the local government system have been under intense scrutiny following recent power tussles between state-level authorities.
