The Ghanaian police in the Ashanti Region have arrested five Nigerian nationals and one Ghanaian over their alleged involvement in a series of robberies targeting bank customers in Kumasi.

According to the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, the suspects trailed victims who had withdrawn large amounts of money from banks and then broke into their vehicles to steal the cash.

Police intelligence and surveillance footage from the emergency command centre helped identify two of the suspects and the vehicles used in the operations a gold-coloured Toyota Highlander (GT 2471-14) and a black Toyota Highlander (GX 7124-12), both with fake licence plates.

On Thursday, June 19, 2025, three other suspects—Russell Ekenze (29), Francis Friday (49), and Linus Agwazie (51)—were arrested. During interrogation, they reportedly confessed to being part of a larger criminal gang.

DCOP Cudjoe said the suspects admitted to carrying out similar thefts across various locations in Kumasi, including Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Mayanka, Asokwa, Kumasi Central Mosque, ShopRite, and the Georgia Hotel area.
