Popular Nigerian actor, Ibrahim Chatta, has shared a deeply emotional story of how he lost his first child a baby girl due to financial hardship in the early years of his life.
In a heartfelt revelation made during a conversation on a movie set, the veteran actor said his daughter died after he was unable to raise the money needed for her hospital treatment. The child was admitted to a hospital in the Iddo area of Lagos State.
“She was taken to the hospital in Iddo. I trekked from Ijora Badia to Makoko, trying to raise money, but I couldn’t get any. She died,” Chatta painfully recounted.
The actor also revealed the heartbreaking condition in which his daughter was buried, describing how she was laid to rest in an old wooden Coca-Cola crate because he could not afford a proper coffin.
“Malik is not my firstborn,” he said, referring to his known child. “My first child is a baby girl. She was buried in a Coke crate. That’s how bad things were.”
Chatta’s story paints a powerful picture of the struggles many Nigerians face in accessing basic healthcare due to poverty. His experience also highlights how far he has come in his career, from hardship and loss to becoming one of Nollywood’s respected actors.
Many fans and fellow actors have since expressed sympathy and support for Chatta, praising his courage in speaking about such a painful chapter in his life.
