Popular Big Brother Naija star, Tacha Akide, has caused a stir online after saying that most people living in the United Kingdom are broke and only “package” themselves to appear wealthy.
In a video posted on her Instagram page, the reality TV personality expressed shock over the financial struggles of many UK residents. Tacha, who said she has spent two months in the UK, claimed that people abroad are not as well-off as many Nigerians believe.
“You see those of you always having inferiority complex in Nigeria, thinking everyone here is rich — most people here are broke,” she said. “The most broke people I have met are actually the people I met in the UK. Everyone is just holding themselves. It’s expensive as f\*\*k.”
She added that living conditions in the UK, especially for immigrants, are far from easy and that many Nigerians back home are actually living better lives.
Tacha advised Nigerians considering relocation not to base their decision on the illusion that life abroad is more comfortable or successful.
“Make sure you’re not running to the UK thinking everything will be easier. It’s not what it looks like on social media,” she warned.
Her comments have since gone viral, drawing mixed reactions online. While some praised her honesty, others accused her of generalising and lacking understanding of people’s real struggles.
The video adds to the ongoing conversation among Nigerians about the realities of living abroad versus staying at home, especially amid rising economic hardship.
