Three Masqueraders Arrested for Attacking Enugu Residents

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested three masqueraders in connection with the alleged assault of residents during the Oriokpa Masquerade celebration in Nsukka.

Police spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said in a statement on Tuesday that the suspects were arrested on June 23 around 3:30 p.m. with help from concerned members of the community. He explained that the arrest followed a viral video showing members of the Oriokpa Masquerade group attacking innocent residents on June 22.

“The suspects, along with others still at large, took advantage of the celebration to assault several innocent members of the public, inflicting bodily injuries on them,” Ndukwe said.

One victim, according to the police, is currently receiving treatment in a hospital after sustaining serious injuries from the attack.

The suspects reportedly fled the scene when police first attempted to arrest them, but were later identified and apprehended with the support of local residents.
