Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu personally instructed him to reconcile with his political rival and former ally, Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Fubara made the disclosure while addressing his supporters, known as the “Simplified Family,” during a gathering in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
He said the reconciliation was not easy, but it was a necessary step to restore peace and stability in the state. “President Tinubu clearly said, ‘I want you and your oga to settle,’” Fubara stated, referring to Wike as his former political boss.
The political feud between Fubara and Wike began shortly after Fubara assumed office in 2023. The conflict led to a six-month state of emergency declared in Rivers State and Fubara’s suspension from office.
In a recent meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu brought together all parties involved in the crisis and brokered peace. After the meeting, Wike announced that the differences had been resolved and all sides had agreed to work together.
Speaking on the outcome, Fubara described the peace deal as a “bitter and heavy sacrifice” but urged his supporters to embrace it for the sake of the state’s future.
“We’ve made this sacrifice not because it was easy, but because it’s the right thing to do for the progress and unity of Rivers State,” he added.
Fubara’s comments highlight the behind-the-scenes efforts by the presidency to end one of the most intense political standoffs in the country in recent times.
