Stand Tall, You’ve Won the War” – Wike Tells Anyanwu

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed strong support for Senator Samuel Anyanwu, describing him as a man of character and integrity. Wike made the remarks during Anyanwu’s 60th birthday celebration and book launch.

Anyanwu, who recently retained his position as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after a prolonged leadership tussle, received glowing praise from the former Rivers State governor.

In a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, Wike congratulated Anyanwu for “winning the war” and assured him of his continued support.

“Let me assure you, for people like us, we will stand with you. It doesn’t matter what people say. You have won. Don’t be afraid,” Wike said.

Wike advised Anyanwu to hold his head high and never feel pressured to please those who once opposed him. “You don’t win a war and then go begging. They should come to you,” he said.

He went further to criticise what he described as the inconsistency and double standards of some political figures within the party. “Some people are not straightforward. What they say in the morning is different from what they say at night,” he noted.

The minister revealed he had earlier warned Anyanwu that the leadership battle within PDP would not be easy, especially with strong opposition from top party figures, including governors. However, he commended the senator for standing firm.

“Character makes a man, not money or food. If you don’t have character, go to hell with your food,” Wike added.

He also acknowledged the role of former Senate President Bukola Saraki, who praised Anyanwu for his consistency. Wike concluded by urging politicians to be firm and clear about their positions, stressing that leadership demands courage and integrity.

Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s emergence as the substantive PDP National Secretary followed internal party struggles, with rival factions attempting to remove him. His victory marks a significant moment in the ongoing crisis within the party’s national leadership.
