Security operatives of Operation Crush have arrested three suspected cattle rustlers in Ohiya, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State.
The suspects Saidu Ali, Yakubu Mohammed, and Adamu Isa were caught attempting to steal six cows from a herd of 38. The swift action of the security team prevented the theft.
The Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Security, Navy Commander Macdonald Uba (retd), announced the arrests during a press briefing in Umuahia on Monday. He said the arrests followed a tip-off from a strong farmers-herders committee in the area.
Uba noted recent security breaches around the Umunnochi axis of the state and warned that the rustlers had planned to sell the stolen cattle to other herdsmen. He stressed that without the quick response, the Ohiya community would have faced serious problems.
The suspects have been profiled by the Directorate of State Security Services (DSS) and will be handed over to the police for further investigation.
Governor Otti’s administration remains committed to fighting crime and ensuring peace for all residents of Abia State.
In a separate statement, Alhaji Yaro Danladi, leader of the Hausa community in Abia, condemned the suspects’ actions, reaffirming the community’s desire for peace and tolerance.
