The Plateau State Government has sent a high-level delegation to the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Ahmed Bamalli, to condole with him over the killing of travellers from Zaria in Mangu Local Government Area of the state.
The delegation, led by the Emir of Wase, Alhaji Muhammadu Haruna, visited Zaria following the June 20 attack in Mangun community, where hoodlums killed some travellers who were on their way to Qua’an Pan LGA in Plateau for a wedding but lost their way.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the killings, describing the act as criminal. The Plateau State Police Command has since confirmed the arrest of 22 suspects in connection with the attack.
Speaking on behalf of the government, Emir Haruna assured the Zazzau Emirate and families of the deceased that justice would be done. He said the attack was the act of criminals and does not reflect the values of the people of Plateau.
“We came to express our deepest sympathy. This is a tragic and criminal act which we completely condemn,” he said. “The relationship between Plateau and Kaduna, especially the Zazzau Emirate, is strong and must not be broken by this sad event.”
He thanked the Emir of Zazzau for the peaceful response to the incident and for preventing any form of reprisal. He also said the Plateau government would support the affected families to ease their burden.
The Emir of Zazzau appreciated the visit and urged continued peace and cooperation between communities in both states.
