Wike Accuses Atiku of Sponsoring False Land Allocation Allegations

    Share

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has denied claims that he allocated plots of land to his children in Abuja’s exclusive districts. He alleged that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is behind the accusations.

Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, dismissed the allegations as “futile blackmail” in a statement released on Tuesday. The statement said no land had been allocated to any of Wike’s children and accused those spreading the stories of using false documents.

The statement referenced Atiku indirectly, urging him to focus on other matters, especially after previous failed attempts to tarnish Wike’s image. It pointed out that the land allegedly allocated to Wike’s son in Asokoro and Maitama does not even exist in the two districts combined.

Olayinka explained that the documents used to support the claims actually showed land allocated to companies called JOAQ Farms and Jordan Farms and Estates Limited — neither owned by Wike’s children.

“It is the right of any Nigerian, including the children of the minister, to own land if they meet the legal requirements,” the statement said. It challenged the accusers to publish the real owners’ names, which are registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
