The Ebonyi State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has strongly condemned the killing of 13 Ebonyi indigenes in Ogbuoji, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The attack happened on the evening of June 30, 2025, during a regular monthly meeting of the victims. The assailants, who remain unidentified, reportedly carried out the brutal and unprovoked attack.
Addressing journalists in Abakaliki, CAN Chairman Rev. Dr. Scamb Nwokolo expressed deep sorrow and shock over the senseless violence.
“This is a barbaric act and a dangerous step backward for humanity, where basic human rights are ignored,” he said.
Dr. Nwokolo questioned how anyone could carry out such a heinous attack on innocent and unarmed people. He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and government of Ebonyi State.
He also called on the Anambra State government to act quickly to bring the attackers to justice.
CAN urged both Ebonyi and Anambra states to provide support to the bereaved families, stressing that no amount of compensation can replace their loss but some relief is necessary.
The group also appealed to the people of Anambra State to come together in solidarity to fight the rising violence in the region.
Prayers were held in remembrance of the slain youths as the community mourns the tragic loss.
