Premier League club Arsenal have officially confirmed the departure of Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu and under-21 coach Mehmet Ali.
In a statement released on Friday via the club’s website, Arsenal said they have reached a mutual agreement with Tomiyasu to end his contract with immediate effect.
The 26-year-old joined the Gunners in 2021 from Italian Serie A side Bologna and went on to make 84 appearances across all competitions under manager Mikel Arteta. He was known for his versatility, often playing as a right-back or centre-back.
Meanwhile, the club also announced that Mehmet Ali has stepped down from his role as the U-21 team coach. The 38-year-old has now taken up a new coaching position at Premier League side Brentford.
Ali joined Arsenal from Reading, where he previously served as the U-21 head coach. He also has experience with Tottenham Hotspur’s youth setup.
Arsenal thanked both men for their contributions and wished them success in their future careers.
