Constitution Review Will Strengthen Nigeria – Akpabio

    Share

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said that the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution by the National Assembly is aimed at building a more just, united, and forward-looking nation.

Akpabio made this known at the South-South Zonal Public Hearing on the constitutional review held in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. The hearing is one of several taking place across five geopolitical zones in the country.

According to a statement by Anietie Ekong, his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, the Senate President stressed that the review process is not just a routine legislative duty, but a vital democratic exercise.

“This is not a sign of weakness, but of strength. We are not rejecting the past, but adjusting for the future. We amend the constitution to reflect the realities and hopes of the Nigerian people,” Akpabio said.

He added that the hearing gives ordinary Nigerians a chance to speak directly to the issues that shape the country’s future, saying, “In a democracy, every voice counts.”

The constitution review process aims to address national issues and restructure Nigeria’s political and legal systems to better serve its citizens.
