Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adelabu made this known on Friday during separate meetings with APC leaders and stakeholders in Ogbomoso and Oyo zones as part of his state-wide consultations. He said the meetings were meant to build unity and prepare the party for victory in 2027.
Speaking in Ogbomoso at the residence of party chieftain Ayoade Adeseun, the minister said, “I’m here to tell you that I want to contest for governor of Oyo State in 2027. I’m ready to put to test all the experience I’ve gathered from the past two elections.”
He assured party members that there would be no imposition of candidates, promising a fair contest. “I want to show that I can withstand competition and come out victorious,” he said.
Adelabu pleaded with aggrieved members of the APC to forgive past issues and focus on working together to return the party to power in the state. “Let’s unite and bring APC back in 2027,” he urged.
In Oyo town, Adelabu also called for grassroots support and pledged to run an inclusive government if elected. “No one will be left behind. Everyone will have a voice in the governance of Oyo State,” he said.
He described Oyo zone as “symbolic and historic,” promising that the area would get its fair share of development under his leadership.
The minister also used the opportunity to campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, saying Nigeria stands to benefit more if Tinubu serves a second term. “This is the turn of Yorubas to complete two terms as president,” he added.
Party leaders at the meeting, including Ayoade Adeseun and Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, son of late former governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, expressed support for party unity and called on members to work together ahead of 2027.
