Free Bus Service for Kaduna Civil Servants, Students Begins Monday

    Share

The Kaduna State Government will begin a free daily bus service on Monday, July 8, 2025, for civil servants, students, retirees, and security personnel, as part of its Subsidised Transport Scheme (KSTS).

Announcing the initiative in a statement on Sunday, the Director-General of the Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA), Mr. Inuwa Ibrahim, said the programme will run free of charge for six months, after which a 60 percent subsidy on transport fares will be introduced.

The scheme, launched under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, is aimed at reducing the cost of living and easing transportation for key groups in society.

Mr. Ibrahim explained that the service would cover students from both public and private schools, across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, as well as civil servants and retirees. Access will be based on proper identification:

    – Civil servants must present valid staff ID and NIN.

    – Students must appear in full school uniform.

    – Security personnel can board upon presenting proper ID.

Three bus routes have been designated for the service, including:

    – Route Two: Rigachikun – Kawo – Independence Way – Yakowa Road – and back.

    – Route Three: Tudun Wada – Poly Road – Sokoto Road – Kawo – and return trips.

He also warned against disorderly boarding, urging passengers to follow the rules and maintain decorum at bus stops.

This development follows President Bola Tinubu’s recent commissioning of 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses during his visit to Kaduna on June 19, 2025.

The government says it is committed to ensuring smooth and secure operations throughout the duration of the scheme, which is part of a broader strategy to cushion the effects of economic hardship on residents.
