Several people, including a respected community leader, were killed on Thursday night when bandits attacked Gidan Taro village in Kwasare Sisawa ward, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen stormed the village at night, shooting at residents and causing panic. Among those killed was Alhaji Bello Gidan Taro, a well-known and highly respected figure in the community.
In addition to the killings, many villagers were injured, and several others were abducted during the attack.
“Yesterday night, bandits attacked Gidan Taro in Kwasare Sisawa ward, Wurno LGA, Sokoto State, killing several, injuring many, and abducting others. Among those killed was a respected community member, Alhaji Bello Gidan Taro,” a local source confirmed.
The attack has thrown the community into mourning, with calls for stronger security presence in the area.
Sokoto, like many parts of North-Western Nigeria, has been facing frequent attacks by armed bandits who target villages for killings, kidnappings, and looting. Residents have continued to appeal to the government to take urgent action to protect rural communities.
