Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has strongly condemned the recent attacks by Boko Haram insurgents in rural communities of Borno State that left several people dead over the weekend.
The attacks occurred in Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area and Mussa town in Askira/Uba Local Government Area.
In Ngoshe, five farmers were reportedly killed on their farmlands on Saturday morning while carrying out their daily work. Later that same night, gunmen invaded Mussa community, killing three youths and setting fire to houses and shops.
Reacting to the attacks in a statement on Sunday, Senator Ndume described the violence as “heartbreaking and deeply painful.” He lamented the continued targeting of innocent citizens, especially farmers and youths who are simply trying to live peaceful lives.
“I am profoundly saddened by these senseless killings. Our people, whose only pursuit is peace and livelihood, continue to fall victim to insurgents,” Ndume said.
Senator Ndume praised the efforts of the military and security forces operating under Operation Hadin Kai for their work in combating Boko Haram. However, he urged the federal and state governments to do more to strengthen security, especially in rural and farming communities.
He called for increased deployment of security personnel, provision of sophisticated weapons, and better air support to protect vulnerable communities from attacks.
The senator also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and cooperate closely with security agencies to ensure better intelligence and quicker response to threats.
“Unity and resilience are vital in confronting this insurgency,” he said, encouraging communities to stand together in the face of these violent attacks.
Borno State has been a major battleground in Nigeria’s fight against Boko Haram, with rural communities often bearing the brunt of violence. Farmers and young people are especially at risk, as the insurgents frequently attack to disrupt livelihoods and spread fear.
The recent attacks highlight the urgent need for improved security measures to protect innocent citizens and restore peace in the region.
