Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officer, Mr. Simon Agbo, in Makurdi, the Benue State capital. The incident occurred on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
Agbo, who was recently transferred from Kwara to Benue State in February, was taken from his residence opposite NKST Church Kuan, behind Modern Market. According to a family source, he was chatting with two neighbours around 7:15 pm when the attackers struck.
The gunmen reportedly fired several shots to scare off neighbours and family members before abducting Agbo at gunpoint. One of his neighbours, whose actions raised suspicion, was later arrested by police after family members claimed he kept calling Agbo home that evening and may have been involved.
Agbo’s younger brother, who identified himself as Agbo as well, said the kidnappers have contacted the family and are demanding a ransom of N20 million for his release.
Local youths and vigilantes launched a search immediately after the incident, but the kidnappers had already escaped.
Efforts to reach the Nigeria Immigration Service for official comments were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
