Following the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), party leaders from the North-Central zone have called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure the position returns to their region.

The APC North-Central Forum made the appeal in a statement released on Saturday by its Chairman and member of the Presidential Campaign Council, Saleh Zazzaga.

Zazzaga said it is only fair for the region to complete the tenure started by former National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who also hails from the North-Central.

“We have consistently maintained that the position of National Chairman should remain in the North-Central to complete Adamu’s tenure,” he said.

Zazzaga recalled that the forum had earlier taken legal action to press home its demand but stepped down its agitation when the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) ratified Ganduje’s appointment, in the interest of peace and party unity.

Now that Ganduje has resigned, the group says it is time for the APC to correct what it calls a longstanding injustice.

“This is not just about sentiment. The North-Central has competent and loyal leaders who can lead the APC to more electoral victories,” Zazzaga noted.

He said returning the position to the region would help promote fairness, strengthen the party, and boost unity ahead of future elections.

The call comes amid internal discussions within the APC over who should replace Ganduje, whose resignation has opened up the leadership race once again.
