The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage in parts of Oyo State on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

According to a statement released on Monday by TCN’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, the blackout will last six hours, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The company explained that the outage is necessary to carry out scheduled maintenance on one of its major power transformers a 60 MVA, 132/33kV transformer at the Ayede Transmission Substation.

As a result, electricity supply from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (Ibadan DisCo) will be disrupted in Eleyele, Lanlate, and Apata during the maintenance period.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause electricity customers supplied from the transformer,” Mbah said. “We appreciate your understanding as we carry out this work to ensure a safe and reliable power system.”

TCN assured that power supply will be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed.

Power outages linked to maintenance or technical issues are common in Nigeria, where the national grid and electricity infrastructure face frequent challenges.
