Bauchi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the shocking death of 24-year-old Wasila Abdullahi, allegedly beaten to death by her 50-year-old husband, Alhaji Nuru Isah, during a domestic dispute. The tragic incident, which has raised serious concerns about domestic violence, occurred on the night of March 1, 2025, in the Fadamam Mada area, near Government Girls College in Bauchi.
The incident reportedly began as an argument between the couple over the preparation of their Ramadan meal. Isah, a businessman at the Bauchi Central Market, is said to have attacked his second wife, Wasila, after a dispute over food ingredients and fruits meant for breaking their fast. What started as a disagreement quickly escalated into a violent confrontation, resulting in the tragic death of the young woman.
According to a statement from the Bauchi State Police Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Wakili, the altercation took a violent turn when Isah allegedly struck Wasila with a cane. The force of the blow caused her to collapse, and she lost consciousness inside their home. In a desperate attempt to save her, family members rushed her to the ATBU Teaching Hospital. However, despite efforts by medical personnel, Wasila was confirmed dead upon arrival.
“The suspect has been arrested and the cane used in the assault has been recovered as evidence,” the police statement read. “The victim’s body has been deposited in the mortuary pending an autopsy.”
The arrest of Alhaji Nuru Isah came swiftly after the incident, and authorities have assured the public that justice will be served. Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, expressed his commitment to ensuring that the case is thoroughly investigated and that those responsible for the death are held accountable.
In his statement, CP Muhammad also took the opportunity to address the broader issue of domestic violence, which continues to be a growing concern across Nigeria. He urged the community to foster environments of respect, empathy, and understanding within families, highlighting that violence within the home is a serious crime with severe consequences.
This tragic event has brought attention to the ongoing issue of domestic violence in Nigeria, which has affected countless individuals, particularly women. While domestic abuse often goes unreported, it remains a significant problem across the country. In recent years, there have been numerous reports of women suffering at the hands of their partners, and this case highlights the need for greater awareness and action against domestic violence.
