President Bola Tinubu has announced that the Federal Government is set to complete the 284-kilometer Kano-Jigawa-Katsina-Maradi rail project by 2026. He made this statement on Friday during the inauguration of the Katsina State Agricultural Mechanization Centre and the 24-kilometer Eastern Bypass, both funded by the state government.
The rail project, which aims to enhance transportation in the region, is expected to ease the movement of people and goods, reducing the pressure on existing road networks. Tinubu emphasized that the project will be finished as scheduled by 2026, adding that it is crucial for improving the country’s infrastructure.
In addition to the rail project, President Tinubu announced the award of contracts for the full rehabilitation of the Marabar Kankara-Dutsinma-Katsina Road and the Zaria-Hunkuyi-Dabai-Kafur-Malumfashi-Dayi-Gidan Mutumdaya Road. He assured that these roads will be completed on time to benefit the people of Katsina State.
The president also confirmed that the second phase of the Katsina-Kano Road project, which had faced technical and bureaucratic delays, is now underway and will be completed soon.
Tinubu praised Governor Dikko Radda for his efforts in advancing agriculture and infrastructure in the state. Governor Radda, in his remarks, thanked the Federal Government for providing over 6,000 water pumping machines to irrigation farmers. He also highlighted the state’s investment of over N2 billion in purchasing 448,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer for 2024, and the launch of the 2025 fertilizer distribution for farmers, which is set to distribute 400,000 metric tonnes. Additionally, Radda mentioned the increase in extension workers from 72 to over 778 to assist farmers.
This strong focus on infrastructure and agriculture aims to boost economic development in the region and ensure the sustainable growth of the state and its people.
