In a significant development, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, disclosed that President Bola Tinubu personally reached out to him in an effort to resolve the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State.P

Wike, who previously served as the Governor of Rivers State, made this revelation during a recent media interaction. He emphasized that the President’s call was aimed at facilitating peace between him and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

“President Tinubu called me directly,” Wike stated. “He expressed his concern over the situation in Rivers State and urged me to find a way to resolve the issues amicably.”

The political crisis in Rivers State has been escalating since late 2023, following a fallout between Wike and Fubara. The discord led to a series of events, including the defection of 27 members of the state House of Assembly from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), and subsequent legal battles over the legitimacy of the Assembly’s leadership.

In March 2025, the situation reached a critical point when President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State. This unprecedented move led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy, and all members of the state legislature. Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retired) was appointed as the sole administrator of the state to restore order.
