Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has paid a heartfelt tribute to his wife, Hajiya Titi Abubakar, as she celebrated her 75th birthday, describing her as a blessing to him and their family throughout their over 50 years of marriage.

Speaking at a private celebration attended by family and close friends, Atiku praised Titi for her patience, loyalty, and strength in standing by him through both personal and political journeys.

“I am proud to say that I couldn’t have married a better wife. Titi and I got married against our parents’ wishes in the most daring way, with no family members, with only two friends.”

“Today, we have been married for more than 50 years,” he said. “Titi has been a blessing beyond measure to me and our family. I don’t know how we started calling ourselves Mummy and Daddy, but it has stuck.”

He further reflected on the importance of patience in marriage, saying, “I thank her for being patient with my shortcomings. Patience is a virtue you can never regret. I encourage spouses to continue to be patient with each other.”

In a candid moment, Atiku remarked that even after marrying more wives, Titi remained by his side—an act he said reflects her deep commitment and understanding.

The event, which featured a rare moment of the couple dancing together, was attended by close friends, family members, and notable guests including the wife and family of late General Sani Abacha. Many described the evening as a warm and intimate glimpse into the personal life of one of Nigeria’s most prominent political figures.

Titi Abubakar, well known for her work on women’s rights and against human trafficking, has long been an advocate for vulnerable women and girls in Nigeria. Despite largely staying out of the political spotlight, she has played a significant role in supporting Atiku’s public service and repeated presidential ambitions.

In his closing remarks at the event, Atiku said their enduring partnership was built not just on love, but on mutual respect and tolerance.

“After everything, what keeps you going is not just love—it’s also patience, tolerance, and loyalty,” he said.
