The Sokoto State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has disassociated itself from recent calls to nominate Senator Aliyu Wamakko as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement on Monday, ALGON Sokoto Chairman, Alhaji Abba Shehu-Tambuwal, said the comment by the association’s Secretary and Kebbe Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Yarima, was purely his personal opinion and did not represent ALGON’s official position.
Shehu-Tambuwal described Yarima’s claim about Wamakko’s alleged vice presidential ambition as “baseless and lacking credibility,” stressing that Wamakko has not publicly shown any interest in the position.
The chairman urged the public to disregard the speculation and called for responsible communication on sensitive national issues. He also reminded ALGON members to follow proper channels before making public statements.
Earlier, Wamakko’s spokesperson, Abdallah El-Kurebe, dismissed the vice presidential claim as “misleading, unauthorised, and false.”
The clarification comes amid growing speculation about potential running mates ahead of the 2027 elections, with political stakeholders calling for unity and accuracy in public discourse.
