A Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has convicted 32 individuals for violating Ekiti State’s Environmental Health and Sanitation Laws during Saturday’s monthly sanitation exercise.
Presiding Magistrate Olubunmi Bamidele said the convictions are meant to serve as a strong warning to other residents who fail to take the state’s sanitation rules seriously.
Out of the 32 people convicted, 21 were given the option of paying fines, while others were ordered to carry out community service. However, 11 people were discharged after the court reviewed the circumstances surrounding their cases.
Meanwhile, the Director of Environmental Health and Sanitation in the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Ayodele Aluko, urged residents to adopt regular environmental cleaning as a habit.
He stressed that good hygiene helps prevent the spread of diseases and promotes public health. He encouraged citizens to support the government’s efforts to keep Ekiti clean and safe.
