SSANU Demands Payment of Two Months Salary Arrears

    Share

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has vowed to keep pushing the Federal Government to pay the two months of salaries still owed to its members.

This was the main outcome of SSANU’s 51st National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, held at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology in Wudil, Kano State.

In a statement signed by SSANU National President, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, the union condemned the continued withholding of salaries from members who took part in the 2022 strike. They called for the immediate release of the owed salaries to restore peace and good relations within the university system.

The union also raised concerns over delays in salary payments to university workers, which often come weeks after other federal workers are paid. They described this as unfair and called for equal treatment in salary disbursements across all federal and state institutions.

SSANU also criticized the recent payment of earned allowances by the government. Though the Federal Government released N50 billion for allowances, 80% was given to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), leaving only 20% for SSANU and other non-teaching unions.

Besides salary issues, SSANU expressed deep concern about the worsening security situation in Nigeria. The union urged the government to declare a national emergency on security and to improve the professionalism and intelligence capacity of security agencies.

They also called for urgent action to tackle poverty, youth unemployment, and social injustice as root causes of violence.
